Is it safe for a newborn?,.. anyone using a GRACO Pack n Play, any comments are appreciated?

I just put up a GRACO pack and play. (It was a gift, soo cute)
I was wondering Is it safe for a newborn to sleep trough the night in the basinet. There is a warning on the pack and play not to add any matrasses , but is the baby wedge ok?
Or should I just buy a crib?
Alright moms,.. Let me know

I used it when I brought my twins home almost exclusively. I had no problems with it. I think if you add just a wedge in there, it should be ok.

  2. I used my GRACO pack and play for the frist 3 months of my sons life. We used the sleep positioners when he was frist born. I would not use it much longer then that. Once they sit up or start to roll I would go to the crib. Good Luck

  3. Lots of my friends used the bassinet in the Pack n Play when their babies were newborns (kept it in their room). You will eventually need a crib but for the first few months you should be fine. Just make sure you put it together right and it is secure.

  4. I have used the same exact Pack n Play for all 3 of my children on overnight stays at hotels, etc. . . and as long as you don’t add anything to it, its fine. Make sure you have set it up correctly and all 4 sides are locked into place! A baby wedge for a newborn is fine too. You will probably want to get a crib eventually though. We only used the Pack n Play for trips.

We used our pack and play as a crib when we traveled and our son was very little. We rolled up a burp cloth to use as a wedge and he slept great. Ours had a feature where you could vibrate the mattress pad and that seemed to help him sleep all the more. I would just make sure you take all the same precautions with the pack and play as you would with a crib or bassinet. Make sure it’s put together correctly and have a monitor on or be near enough to check on your baby.

  6. I would use the wedge in there during nap time, but I would be concerned that the mattress in a pack and play is not substantial enough for sleeping on all the time. Call your pediatrician and leave a phone message ask him/her what she thinks about the mattress pad that comes with the pack and play and then go from there. Good luck

  7. I’d use it just for the bassinet and not as an actual crib. The baby wedge is fine, although it’s not recommended by the AAP, as it’s a suffocation hazard. I don’t know of anyone who put a wedge in with their baby who could roll over or that put it near baby’s face, so I don’t see the problem. Just no mattress and you’re fine.

a baby wedge is fine. . . but keep in mind they are only good for newborns up to 15 lbs then they advise you to put your baby in a crib. . . either way your going to have to purchase a crib no doubt about it. . .

  9. I used it everynight for a month with a wedge and she did great. After that, we moved her to her crib cause she’s a grunter.

Make sure you only use it to the specific weight limits, then move the baby when they get there, or before. I’d buy a crib too for later.

  10. I don’t think its safe to let them sleep up on that bassinet. . . I am just afraid it will tip over with them in it. . . my opinion.

My son has slept on the standard mattress in his pack n play for short naps, but not during the night, I think its too hard.

I bought a large piece of foam (full size of the pack n play) and covered it with a nice quilted material and put that inside his pack n play. . . and that is where he sleeps when we’re at my parents house. It is not perfect, and you have to be careful that they don’t get wedged in between the foam and the mesh. . . my son is older and has never had a problem with it, but I’d be more concerned with the young infants who are just learning to roll.

I think the wedge would be fine. . . they’re warning you more about what I just described above, because it creates a gap from the base of the pack n play, up to the top of whatever matress you put inside. . . but the wedge wouldn’t create that much of a difference.

  11. My son actually PREFERS his P&P over his crib, he sleeps in it every night and better in it than he does his crib.

  12. We use it right now with a mattress pad and have had absolutely no problems.

We’re about to stop using the bassinet though and just have him sleep in the playpen with the mattress pad at the bottom. Same thing as a crib really.
