Is the bassinet part of the Graco pack & play (catalina) comfortable enough for newborn baby?

I am trying to decide if I need to get a separate bassinet, or a different pack n play that has a softer bassinet part. The bassinet did not feel very soft/comfortable in the graco pack n play (catalina). Also, if i do just get the Graco pack n play (catalina) Is there anyway to add some padding or something to make it softer.

Thanks for the help
Those answers all make sense, do you need a bassinet sheet when using the pack n play bassinet?

They aren’t really supposed to be comfy and padded- the baby can suffocate that way. I’m wondering the same thing about my bassinet, but I think just putting one small blanket under her will help it.

To your second question: They sell sheets for a pack n’ play. The bassinet for that is larger. I never did though. I wish I had because it got dirty and if I had used a sheet it would have been much easier to clean.

  2. You don’t want anything to be too soft, as if the baby somehow manages to turn over on its belly, they can suffocate. This is why bassinet and playyard mattresses as well as crib mattresses are firm.

That said, our son did really well with a moses basket for the first couple of months. Since there’s not a lot of room, it’s comforting to them. We’d put that in his crib, so he got used to the surroundings, and that made the eventual transition to the crib directly much smoother.

  3. No bassinet for a baby is going to be soft and comfy. The bassinet mattresses are relatively firm in order to keep them from suffocating. You can buy a little wedge for her to sleep on that will fit in the bassinet.

  4. Pack and plays are great for newborns my daughter loved hers and shes 6 months old and still sleeps in it saves us the money of buying a crib also bassinets really aren’t worth the money we had one my daughter hated it slepted in it maybe two times when she was really young when she was 4 months old was trying to escape i will never buy a bassinet again their hard for a reason a baby isn’t supposed to have soft bedding for the reason of them smothering themselves

I used my Graco Deco pack n’ play right from the beginning. My daughter would nap in the bassinet part almost every day. We just got rid of the bassinet part this week–my daughter is 6 months. Babies aren’t supposed to sleep with too much bedding and softness, so for me, the Graco pack n’ play was perfect.

  6. Our youngest slept in his til he was 2 — that way he could still fit in our room (Army Quarters) as he was still nursing and cosleeping.

Don’t worry to much as others have said you really don’t want it to squishy. Don’t spend extra money on things you really don’t need.

  7. I used my Pack in play bassinet and I plan on using this time around too. My son loved the vibration I started out with just the sheet but then I added a fleece blanket tuck in like a sheet and that work so much better. Now that blanket is my son’s lovey :)

the bassinet part is kinda like a hammock so it’s actually more comfortable than some of the other bassinets

i use this for my son. i have a quilted waterproof pad with a sheet on top of it. they sell the sheets that are meant for the pack n plays. with the pad and sheet i find it to be alot better for a baby :)
